About

The cradle of Polish statehood. A fascinating testimony to a millennium of history, culture and a spirit of entrepreneurship.

Taking advantage of its location at the crossroad of many trade routes, Poznań developed greatly over several centuries. The wealth of the historic city and its trading character is still visible through its magnificent architecture and uniquely colourful Main Square. At the end of the 18th century, the city became part of Prussia. During the partitions, Poles became a target of brutal persecutions and Germanization. Unlike in other parts of the former Poland, their response was not only in armed resistance. Over the next decades, they are rather focused on development in all kinds of fields – educational, social and economic. That is why you will still feel here more… grounded than in the other parts of Poland 🙃

As one of the economic and cultural centres of Poland, known for organizing international fairs, present-day Poznań is bustling with life. It is also one of the biggest university hubs. Some even say it’s the friendliest city in the country. Join our Old Town Free Walkative! Tour to feel the inspiring energy of the capital of Wielkopolska!

During the tour you will see:

  • Liberty Square (Plac Wolnosci)

  • Royal Castle

  • Old Market Square with Pranger

  • Old City Hall and tenement houses

  • Parish Church

  • Jesuits College

  • and much more!

After visiting the Old Town we recommend taking the Poznań Imperial District Tour to get the sense of how Poznań transformed at the beginning of the 20th century.

Meeting Point
Plac Wolności (Freedom Square), next to the fountain. Look for the guide with yellow umbrella.

Went on sunday June 23 of 2024. Our guide, Aleksandra was very great and was describing the city very well. Thanks to her I now know a lot more about the city !

As a French person, I was scared to not understand the guide but she speaks very clearly and loud. Thank you !

Very good explanation about the history of Poznan. Also very necessary since most museums do not have explanations other than in Polish. Zuzanna is a great guide, always willing to help you with any questions you may have. 100% recommended!

Very knowledgeable, very charming, great details. Wonderful mixture of historical, modern, and anecdotal info. Small group which is always a benefit (such a pity for the guide that some people – in this case two people – simply don’t show up)

I booked this free walking tour and planned my day in Poznan around it. When I arrived at the meeting place there was no one there and had waited multiple minutes. I had reach out to Walkative via Whatsapp only to find put that the tour is cancelled. They didnt send any communication to inform me that the tour will not happen. Have I not had written to them they wouldnt have probably informed me at all. A pity, I was looking forward to that tour and because of the cancellation I had to change my plans too.
