At the end of the 18th century, the city became part of Prussia. During the partitions, Poles became a target of brutal persecutions and Germanization. Unlike in other parts of the former Poland, their response was not only in armed resistance. Over the next decades, they are rather focused on development in all kinds of fields – educational, social and economic. That is why you will still feel here more… grounded than in the other parts of Poland 🙃
